Nifrel animal park ニフレル
The aquazoo of wonders
Aquarium, zoo, museum… Nifrel is all of these. Designed to stimulate your connection to nature, this brand new aquazoo presents more than 2,000 animals of 150 different species, some of which roam alongside you in the alleys. An original visit rich in emotions!
moving nature
Housed in the Expocity shopping complex , in the immediate vicinity of the 1970 Osaka World Expo Memorial Park , Nifrel is an aquazoo inaugurated in November 2015. It was designed by the Kaiyukan company which also operates the very popular Kaiyukan aquarium , located in the Osaka Bay area.
This hybrid place is based on the concept of kanseini fureru which means "to touch the sensitivity" . From this central idea comes the name of the aquazoo; Nifrel from " nifureru ".
Nifrel intends to transcend the aquarium, zoo and museum genres audiences are used to. This is why he presents fish, land animals and birds in a completely unique way in finely imagined spaces such as contemporary art installations mixing light, music and videos . The aquazoo thus wishes to make each visitor feel the link he has with nature and the animals and even stimulate them. Nifrel wants to touch, move and invites you to appreciate nature and its riches, as if it were an art.
The extraordinary powers of animals
In its desire not to be yet another animal park, Nifrel stands out with a unique visit route in eight distinct areas .
Here, there is no zoning of species according to their geographical origin or the climate of their place of life.
The emphasis is on the great diversity of the animal world ; each area offering a focus on a particular physical characteristic or ability .
The visit begins with the "Colors" area in which the fish have decked themselves out in their finest attire: flamboyant colors , geometric patterns, silver reflections, multicolored scales. All the finest specimens are there.
Then opens the "Skills" area where you discover the sometimes unsuspected skills of fish and crustaceans: extraordinary strength, water projection or even the ability to hide in the sand. Animals with "superpowers" in a way!

The visit continues in the "Shapes" zone with the discovery of species with incongruous or exceptional shapes .
A brand new zone, the "Mimic" zone opened its doors on March 1 , 2019. This welcomes animals that can blend into their environment to protect themselves in case of danger or get closer to their prey.
Closer to animals
This dive into the animal world also takes you to the "Waterside" where live turtles, frogs, crocodiles, pygmy hippopotamuses and a magnificent white tiger.
The "Behaviour" area is undoubtedly the most popular because it can be full of surprises! There are no fences or barriers here.
The animals only have to cross a small stream to find themselves right next to you . And you can believe us, they don't hesitate! An incredible experience for visitors of all ages.
In the "Biodiversity" area , a video projected on different screens recalls the links between man and animals.
Finally, the dreamlike digital installation "Wonderful Moments" by artist Takahiro Matsuo, places you in space from which the view of the earth is sumptuous. A great idea to take a little height to contemplate the wonders that nature offers us.
