Description:

Embark on a unique journey into the heart of Japan’s blacksmithing tradition with a hands-on experience in Gifu Prefecture, the birthplace of some of Japan's most renowned katana swords and knives. Known for over 700 years as the center of Japanese blade-making, particularly in the city of Seki, which has earned the title of the "City of Blades," this workshop offers an incredible opportunity to craft your own traditional Japanese knife, guided by master blacksmiths.

Throughout the experience, you will work side-by-side with expert artisans who will introduce you to time-honored techniques passed down through generations. You'll actively engage in every step of the forging process—from heating and hammering the steel to shaping, tempering, and sharpening your blade.

  • Learn about the rich history of Seki’s blade-making tradition and discover the materials used, such as high-carbon steel and tamahagane.
  • Under the expert guidance of a seasoned blacksmith, you’ll heat and hammer the metal, shaping your knife using traditional methods.
  • Strengthen the blade through controlled heating and cooling techniques to enhance its durability.
