Shortly before an earthquake, all Japanese phones start ringing, but not foreign phones. To address this, applications have been developed for tourists.
Japan is regularly hit by earthquakes. When traveling, it is possible that you may be faced with an earthquake situation.
Yurekuru Call, the alert
The free app Yurekuru Call can warn you of the impending arrival of an earthquake. Available in the Apple Store and Google Play , it notifies you between ten seconds and two minutes before the quake. You can set the app to where you are located and above what intensity you would like to receive alerts from.
Yubisashi, the translator
It is not easy to communicate when you do not speak Japanese. One app that can help you is Yubisashi. Available in English, this little translator will be very useful in any situation, the worst case of which, the hospital. Type the word you want and the app will pronounce it. Available for iOS and Android, and it's completely free.

- Indoors, stay away from windows. If you can, get yourself under a table to protect from falling objects.
- Outdoors, move away from buildings and high-voltage lines to avoid being hit by broken glass and debris.
