Fireworks over the Bay 東京湾大華火祭
Under the bridge
A profusion of color in the sky. Building windows shimmering with lights. The fireworks of Tokyo Bay seem to emerge from a dream.
Every year on the second Saturday of August, Odaiba is the focal point of the festivities in the capital. From under the huge iron structure of the Rainbow Bridge, over ten thousand rockets are launched during this very spectacular evening. Competing with the Sumida Festival for the prize for the most impressive fireworks, Tokyo Bay Fireworks are not lacking in fame.
Thrills
Regulars often give up on the best vew points, Odaiba Island and Harumi Park, because of the density of the crowd, but the thrill seekers venture, without batting an eyelid, to the best view points.
From 7 p.m., and for one hour, the colorful cracklings keep going strong. While the indigo of the ocean marries with ocher and ethereal saffrons, the senses begin to wander and murmurs of amazement are no longer restrainted. Visual delight, the enflamed fireworks, whatever they are, win over all hearts.
