Kameoka Fireworks 亀岡 花火大会
August 7th
Less than 20 minutes by train from Kyoto in Kameoka, peace illuminates the sky with a magnificent fireworks display.
Its 5,000 fireworks are shot-off to mark the end of the "peace festival" (heiwasai), something this average city in the southern suburbs of Kyoto has held since 1955. The celebration is on Aug. 7th, the day after the anniversary of the US bombing of Hiroshima .
As part of the Obon celebration, Kameoka organizes dances on the 6th of August, and the next day the popular fireworks explode for the inhabitants of the region. And this place is fortunately less crowded than Lake Biwa.
