What to see and do with the Kyoto-Osaka Sightseeing Pass

The Kansai region, especially around the bustling cities of Kyoto and Osaka, is teeming with things to do. From the neon-lit neighborhoods of Osaka to the traditional, geisha-roaming streets of Kyoto, and the rich countryside in between, you'll have plenty to see in a day with Kyoto-Osaka Sightseeing Pass. Here's our favorite recommendations of things to see and do in the area!

Japan Experience recommends:

  • Nakanoshima, Osaka - At the very beginning of the Keihan Main Line in Osaka, the neighborhood of Nakanoshima is one of our favorite spots in the city. Situated near the vibrant area of Umeda, this bank of land in between two rivers boasts a gorgeous park with fascinating museums, nestled in between government buildings.
  • Uji, Kyoto Countryside - Rolling hills full of lush green tea cultures, ancient tea houses and historical temples... Uji is a true gem to experience another side of Japan, just a stone's throw from the cities of Osaka and Kyoto.
  • Demachiyanagi, Kyoto - The end of the Keihan Main Line in Kyoto, Demachiyanagi is an understated neighborhood that is very much worth the detour. At the confluence of two of Kyoto's rivers, Kamo and Takano, the area is nestled between two universities and residential neighborhoods, giving it a uniquely local atmosphere.
  • Osaka World Expo 2025 - While this pass doesn't get you to Yumeshima Island, site of the 2025 Osaka World Expo, it's easily accessible on the Chuo Metro Line, just one stop away with the Midosuji Line from Yodoyabashi Station on the Keihan Main Line. If you're traveling in Osaka or Kyoto between April 13th and October 13th, 2025, don't miss this unique opportunity to attend the year's biggest global event!
