Which Japan Rail Pass to travel with kids in Japan?

Traveling with children in Japan is quite easy.

Here are our tips for taking the train and purchase the right Japan Rail Pass.

In Japanese stations

Stations in Japan can be vast and especially in Tokyo, as they are the depot for travel not just within the city, but for travelling throughout the country. But do not worry ! If you have a stroller or if your children are tired of getting off and climbing the stairs, you will find lifts and escalators.

If it is possible, it is better to avoid the crowded hours ( (7 am to 9 am is the most intense time).

In the stations, you will find many shops in which you can make last minute purchases and bento (Boxed lunches). They also offer small souvenirs related to the japanese train.

In Japanese trains

Please note that in some trains there are not many places for luggage. Do not hesitate to send your luggage with TaQBin transport.

In Tokyo, effort has been done for the new Yamanote train : cars has more space to put strollers or large luggage.

Which Japan Rail Pass for the children ?

Children between 0 and 6 years old

In Japanese trains, children under six do not have dedicated seats. In the train with compulsory reservation, it will be necessary to take them on the knees. If you want them to have a place, you will have to purchase a ticket and a reservation or order a Child Japan Rail Pass.

Children between 6 and 11 years old

In the japanese train, children between 6 and 11 years old have a special rate : Children's basic fare is 50% off the adult price. It's the same for the Japan Rail Pass child.

Children over 12 years old

Children over 12 years old pay the full price.
