New Chitose Airport (CTS) is 40 km outside Sapporo in Hokkaido on Japan's northern island.
The airport is Japan's fifth busiest after Narita and Haneda, serving Tokyo, Kansai International (KIX) near Osaka and Chubu International Airport (Centrair), south of Nagoya. The airport has two terminals (domestic and the smaller international). Shin Chitose (New Chitose) opened in 1991.

Airport Connections on Public Transport
Train
New Chitose Airport is connected to Sapporo Station by JR train (36 minutes) to New Chitose Airport Station or by limousine bus (70 minutes).
JR trains also run to Asahikawa (2 hours), Obihiro (2 hours, 30 minutes), Otaru (72 minutes) and Tomakomai (30 minutes).

There are also highway bus connections to other towns and cities in Hokkaido.
Buses run to Hobetsu (90 minutes), Jozankei Onsen (1 hour, 40 minutes), Muroran (2 hours), Noboribetsu (1 hour), Obihiro and Tomakomai (45 minutes) from the airport. Buses also operate to Niseko in season.
Donan Buses, Hokkaido Chuo Buses and Hokuto Kotsu Buses service the airport.
Hokkaido Chuo and Hokuto Kotsu run buses to Sapporo Station, Susukino, Nakajima Koen and Odori Park in downtown Sapporo.
Donan operates buses to Hobetsu, Muroran, Noboribetsu Onsen, Shizunai, Urakawa and Tomakomai.

Domestic Flights
New Chitose Airport has flights to many other domestic airports in Japan.
These include services to Haneda, Narita, KIX, Itami (Osaka), Fukuoka Airport, Chubu International Airport (Centrair).
In addition, there are flights as well to the more regional airports in Japan, namely Akita, Aomori, Asahikawa, Fukushima, Hakodate, Hiroshima, Kobe, Kushiro, Matsumoto, Memanbetsu, Naha (Okinawa), Niigata, Rishiri, Sendai, Toyama, Wakkanai and Yamagata.
International Flights
Chitose Airport has international connections to mainly Asian and Russian destinations.
These include short haul flights to Beijing, Busan, Daegu, Dalian, Guam, Hong Kong, Khabarovsk, Kaohsiung, Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, Seoul, Shanghai, and Taipei (Taiwan).
Foreign airlines flying in to Chitose include Cathay Pacific, EVA Air, Finnair, Jeju Air, Jin Air, Korean Air, Philippine Airlines, Qantas, Scoot, Singapore Airlines, T'way (Korea) and Thai Airways.

New Chitose Airport has free Wifi and you can also rent mobile Wifi routers or purchase SIM cards from a vending machine.
There is a bank, ATM's, a post office and a currency exchange bureau. The terminal buildings have coin lockers, a useful Tourist Information Office and charging facilities for mobile phones.
There are several car rental companies situated in arrivals for onward travel in Hokkaido. Taxi stands are located at both the Domestic and International terminals.
Chitose has a wide range of dining and shopping facilities including duty free stores. There's even an onsen on the 4th floor of the domestic terminal.
The three star Air Terminal Hotel New Chitose Airport is directly accessible from the domestic terminal. JR Inn Chitose is a short shuttle bus ride away in Chitose town itself.
The airport terminals and station are barrier free.
