Tennoji Station in Tennoji-ku, south Osaka, is an important hub station in the south of the city south of Umeda, Shinsaibashi and Namba Station on the north-south Midosuji Line of the Osaka subway system.
There are in fact three stations interlinked by bridge and underground walkways at Tennoji, the JR Tennoji Station and subway station, Abeno Kintetsu Station and the small tram line, the Hankai Uemachi Line, from Tennojieki-mae to Sumiyoshikoen Station, convenient for Sumiyoshi Taisha Grand Shrine.
Rail connections from Tennoji Station
Tennoji Station is on both the Midosuji Line south from Osaka Station City and the Tanimachi Line of the Osaka subway, the JR Osaka Loop Line, the JR Hanwa Line from Tennoji to Wakayama with some trains going to Kansai Airport Station for Kansai International Airport (KIX) via Hineno and some return trains continuing on the JR Osaka Loop Line to Kyobashi Station and then to Shin-Osaka Station.
Tennoji is also on the JR Yamatoji Line from Kamo in Kyoto Prefecture to JR Namba Station.

Tennoji Station connects to Osaka Abenobashi Station inside the giant Abeno Harukas Kintetsu department store. From Osaka Abenobashi Station there are Kintetsu Line trains on the Minami-Osaka Line for Imagawa, Fujiidera, Domyoji, Furuichi (in Osaka Prefecture), Shakudo, Kashiharajingu-mae, Yoshino and Kawachi-Nagano in Nara Prefecture.

The Minami-Osaka Line platforms are inside the massive Abeno Harukas skyscraper which is presently (2014) Japan's highest building with 60 floors. Abeno Harukas contains the Kintetsu Department Store (Japan's largest) from B2F-14F, the luxury Marriott International Miyako Hotel (38F-55F), and the new HQ of Sharp Corporation.

From underground passages to the subway lines follow the signs to the Hankai Uemachi Line, a streetcar from Tennojieki-mae to Sumiyoshikoen Station, for Sumiyoshi Taisha Grand Shrine.
Buses From Tennoji Station
Tennoji Station is a major hub for both local buses and long-distance highway buses.
From the west side of Tennoji JR Station local buses 62 and 67 go to Sumiyoshi Shako-mae, bus 63 for Asaka and bus 64 for Orionobashi. From the east side of Tennoji JR Station bus 62 goes to Osaka Station City.
Other local buses go to Namba (#52), Suminokoen Subway Station (#47, #48), Deto (#1), Imazato Subway Station (#13), Kita-Tatsumi Bus Terminal (#30, #32) and Sunjiyata (#6, #26).
A number of different limousine highway bus companies run bus services to Nagoya, Tsukuba, Tsuchiura, Mito, Fukushima, Hitachi, Yamagata, Sendai, Kawagoe, Yokohama, Tokyo Station, Akihabara Station, Tokyo Disneyland, Kofu, Karuizawa (all in northern Japan), Kochi and Takamatsu (both on Shikoku), Hagi, Kumamoto, Kagoshima, Nagasaki, Hiroshima and Yamaguchi.
There are also limousine bus services to Osaka's two airports: KIX to the south and Itami to the north.
Around Tennoji Station
The south of Tennoji Station around Abenobashi Station is definitely the smarter of the two sides of Tennoji. Shopping includes the renovated Abeno Kintetsu department store, Hoop and Abeno Harukas. To the west are Abeno Lucias, the Apollo Building and Abeno Market Park Q's Mall, the largest shopping mall in Osaka Prefecture.
To the north is Tennoji Park which includes Tennoji Zoo, which opened in 1915, the Osaka Municipal Museum of Art and Isshinji Temple. North east of here is the historic Shitennoji Temple and its hidden gem, the Gokuraku-jodo Garden. Just west of Tennoji Park are the Tsutenkaku Tower, Shin-Sekai, Jan-Jan Yokocho Street and Spa World.
Hotels near Tennoji Station
There are a number of hotels around Tennoji Station. First and foremost is the Tennoji Miyako Hotel, Hotel La Aroma Tennoji, and for cheap and basic on a budget in Nishinari-ku with Japanese-style rooms try the Business Hotel Taiyo.
