The Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo houses international and Japanese post-war modern art. Opened in 1995 in Koto ward, east Tokyo, it is the first public art gallery in the metropolis devoted to modern art.

Collection and Exhibitions
As well as its permanent collection (entrance fee 500 yen), the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo has regular special exhibitions (usually about 800 yen - 1,000 yen).
The permanent collection has around 4,000 works, about 100 of which are on display at any one time. It includes works by Andy Warhol including his Marilyn Monroe (1967), Roy Lichtenstein including his Girl with Hair Ribbon (1965), David Hockney, Gerhard Richter, Julian Schnabel, Frank Stella, and Sandro Chia.

The The Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo has free internet access (directly across from the entrance that you use when approaching from Kiba Park), a restaurant on the B2 floor (open11 am-6 pm), a museum shop, an art library, an art information gallery, an observation deck, and indoor parking but for only 50 cars (access by other than car is recommended).

The Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo Building
The building was designed by architect Takahiko Yanagisawa. His other works include the New National Theatre Tokyo in Shibuya, the Koriyama City Museum in Fukushima Prefecture and the Utsubo Kubota Memorial Museum in Matsumoto, Nagano Prefecture.

Museum Library
The Museum has a library with a total number of 270,000 items: books (55,000 of which 7,000 are from overseas), exhibition catalogs (77,000 of which 11,000 are in languages other than Japanese), periodicals (133,000 or which 16,000 are from overseas), plus some microfilm and audio-visual materials.

The Sandwich Upstairs cafe is, as the name states, upstairs. Hours: 10 a.m.-6 p.m. (last orders at 5:30 p.m.); closed on days the Museum is closed.

The 100 Spoons is a family restaurant on the B1 floor of the Museum, with 100 seats. It is all non-smoking, and tables can be reserved on weekdays only.
