A Buddhist temple of the Soto Zen sect in the district of Sugamo (巣鴨) from the late nineteenth century, this temple is particularly renowned for the statue of the Jizo togenuki. Jizo, or Ksitigarbha in Sanskrit, is usually depicted as a monk, and embodies a Japanese Buddhist bodhisattva. Togenuki means "thorn removal". Japanese people come to this temple to heal pains and enjoy a peaceful end of life. Follow the ritual. You must pour water from the fountain in front of the statue on a tired or painful part of your body. Good news: you can heal the pain any time since the temple is open day and night.
