Do you want to take a Tokyoite walk in a different way? Want to explore Tokyo hair in the wind? Tokyo Discovery Bike Tours has been offering a package since 2006 that should please you.
Spending half a day by bike, accompanied by a qualified English-speaking guide is not easy. Yet this is the tantalizing menu offered by Tokyo Discovery Bike Tours.
The initiative targets almost exclusively tourists on vacation in Japan, offering them through two programs to explore not only places of interest, but also a hidden side of the city , which would take too long to reach by walking.
Lower town and old quarters program
The departure is from Akihabara , a true modern and technological center. The tour begins with the sumo district , Ryogoku, where you may have the opportunity to see the fighters strolling down the street. Passing Skytree, a steel colossus 634 meters high, you will reach the must-see old district of Asakusa , the most famous of Tokyo, but also the most frequented.
Then you will be taken to the ancient city of Yanaka, passing through the historic district of Ueno, also famous for its cherry blossoms. Very calm, sheltered from traffic and effervescent crowds, at the opposite end of Asakusa, Yanaka will reward your trip in serenity. The perfect opportunity to see a piece of everyday Japanese life in a timeless neighborhood. The tour will end in Akihabara.
Imperial Palace and waterfront program
The departure is again from Akihabara, and direction of the imperial palace . Its moat, and its walls, in the pure tradition of the time, make it one of the oldest symbols of the greatness of Tokyo.
You will descend to the luxury district of Ginza and continue to the waterfront. There is the Tsukiji fish market , one of the largest in the world. The return is via Tsukishima, an artificial island almost 120 years old.
