Seijiro Matsuoka (1894-1989) was a Japanese industrialist who assembled a large collection
mainly of Chinese ceramics, and later ancient Egyptian, Greek, Roman, and Indian Gandhara, art.
History
His collection was on display in a museum inside the building which housed his company, until 2000, when it moved to this specially constructed dedicated museum in Shirokanedai. The Museum is right next to the Tokyo Teien Metropolitan Museum.

Exhibits
The Matsuoka Museum of Art has two floors: the 1st floor displaying ancient oriental art, modern sculpture
by the like of Henry Moore and Emilio Greco, Indian Gandharan sculpture. The lobby features the French sculptor Emile Bourdelle's Penelope (1912) as well as the ancient Roman marble, Minerva.
The 2nd floor displays oriental ceramics, Japanese painting, and modern European painting.
The Matsuoka Museum of Art also features regular changing exhibitions on various themes.

Admission: 800 yen for adults, 500 yen for students.
Hours: 10 am-5 pm. Closed Mondays, except when Monday is a national holiday, then closed Tuesday.
Closed at New Year, and for changes of exhibitions.
