Tokyo Museums: Gas Science Museum
Gas Science Museum ガスの科学館
The Gas Science Museum (Gas no Kagakukan in Japanese) in Toyosu, Tokyo is a child-friendly, hands-on, free museum popular with families at the weekends and organized elementary school groups during the week.
Gas Science Museum Exhibits
The Gas Science Museum is definitely aimed at younger children, those of elementary school age, and might not be of interest to junior or high school students, though adults can certainly be entertained.
The spacious lobby has a fun demonstration of a hot air balloon which rises up to the ceiling every so often powered by the gas burners underneath. The rest of the first floor has a series of hands-on exhibits geared to keep your kids hooked on gas for an hour or two at least. At regular intervals there are interactive science quizzes in the auditorium lead by a teacher.
The second floor is dedicated to energy and heat and lets your kids experience cooking by gas on large computer screens. Flip the computer-generated frying pan to cook up some tasty fried noodles.
