The Tokyo Big Sight convention center welcomes the largest manga and anime fair in the world.
Popular with professionals and looked forward to by amateurs, the Tokyo Anime Fair, dubbed "TAF" by insiders, opens its doors to the public during the last weekend in March in Odaiba. It was canceled in 2011 because of the disaster on March 11th, but resumed in 2012.
Uneven success
Major disappointment: the superstars that are One Piece, Naruto and Bleach are conspicuously absent since 2010. And for good reason: the ten largest publishers of manga grouped together as "Comic 10 Society", launched a boycott of the show in protest against a draft regulation of the sale of their products to Japanese minors. This revolt has reduced the attractiveness of the event and since 2010, the TAF has been a flop.
A resurrection in 2014?
TAF committee has also said there is little that the 2013 would be the last. But do not panic! By partnering with the team at the Anime Expo Contents (ACE), the committee announced for 2014 a new exhibition dedicated to manga and animation, the AnimeJapan . It will take as its predecessor at Tokyo Big Sight. Simple stunt or revolution, you see the 22 and 23 March.
