A few kilometers from Tokyo, the Machida Squirrel Garden or Machida risuen welcomes young and old to discover little balls of fur. Installed in an enclosed garden, the squirrels frolic and let themselves be approached.

If you are lucky, you may come across one of the two giant tortoises in the garden. Particularly impressive but very calm, they often hide in the tall grass of the garden - but you can also see them wandering on the paths. These land turtles are named Sachiko and Junko and are over a meter long! They may bring you luck: indeed, in Japanese culture, the turtle is a symbol of good fortune and longevity ...

    From Tokyo, go to Machida station via the Odakyu line, then take bus 53 or 55 and get off at the Yakushiike park stop named 薬師池(バス). Count about 1,400 yen round trip (10€90) and 1h15 journey.
