Where to eat in Tokyo during the 2020 Olympics? オリンピックの間に東京のどこで食べますか?
A great meal after the game
Hungry after a day of attending the Olympic games... Discover our selection of favorite restaurants near the venues of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games events!
Japan Experience - Subagent of Eventeam, Authorized Ticket Reseller for France
Between two events, visitors from all over the world, sports enthusiasts or simply from Japan, will have to think about something to eat. For that, nothing better than to try Japanese food in one of the many restaurants in the Japanese capital...
We thus offer a selection of restaurants at affordable prices, located not far from the various venues and stadiums. As a reminder, the sites which will host the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games are mainly comprised of two large zones: first the "Heritage Zone", which includes a certain number of equipment already used for the 1964 Olympic Games, then the "Tokyo Bay Area", including purpose-built venues for the 2020 Olympiads. The latter is largely built on the various artificial islands of Odaiba.
Legacy area, Harajuku district
Three major stadiums are located in the Harajuku and Sendagaya districts, in the heart of Tokyo. These are the Olympic Stadium (opening and closing ceremonies, athletics, football), the Metropolitan Gymnasium (table tennis), and the Yoyogi National Stadium (handball). Here are two restaurants ideally located to "have a bite to eat" between two events.
Sakura Tei
This large okonomiyaki restaurant welcomes you in a warm and relaxed atmosphere. Located halfway between the National Yoyogi Stadium and the new Olympic Stadium, cook your own okonomiyaki on the teppan.
All-you-can-eat menus are offered both at lunchtime (1,500 yen) and in the evening (2,500 yen) for big eaters. Menus in English are available and credit cards are accepted!
- Address: 3 chome 20-1, Jingumae, Shibuya-ku, 150-0001 Tokyo
- Hours: Open daily from 11 am to 11 pm.
Kyushu Jangara ramen
A warmly decorated restaurant, which offers excellent ramen at always affordable prices, between 700 and 1,300 yen (about $6-11/5.25-1.25€) for a dish. The places are especially known for their vegetarian and vegan ramen.
The restaurant is less than a 10 min walk from the National Yoyogi Stadium, making it an ideal choice for dining after a handball game.
- Address: 1-13-21 Jingumae Shanzeru Harajuku Bldg. 2 1-2F, Jingumae, Shibuya, 150-0001 Tokyo
- Hours: Open daily from 11 am to 11 pm.
Also in the heritage area, another "center" is centered around the Imperial Palace. The judo, karate, race walking, and weightlifting events all take place around the Kôkyo Palace. Exceptionally, the walking events will even take place directly within the imperial gardens.
Here are some good places to eat in the surrounding areas:
Nemuro Hanamaru Sushi
This sushi restaurant with rotating trays is ideally located, very close to the gardens of the Imperial Palace but also the Tokyo International Forum. And beware, don't look for its storefront on the street, as it's housed on the 5th floor of Kitte Department Store, right across from Tokyo Station.
The pair of sushi will cost you between 140 and 400 yen (about $1.20-3.50/1-3€), a very affordable price for the quality.
- Address: 2-7-2 Kitte Marunouchi Kitte 5F, Marunouchi, Chiyoda, 100-0005 Tokyo
- Opening hours: Monday to Saturday from 11 am to 11 pm., Sunday until 10 pm.
Kanoya Athlete Restaurant
A "healthy" restaurant perfect for the Olympic Games theme, which can accommodate both athletes and gourmets.
Meals are made up of 3 small dishes of your choice, a side dish, and a soup. You will find indicated the number of calories of each dish, as well as the different contributions such as proteins.
It's up to you to compose the perfect, fresh, healthy, and balanced meal!
- Address: 3-21 Kanda Nishikicho, Chiyoda, 101-0054 Tokyo
- Hours: 11 am. to 8 p.m.
Tokyo Bay area
The Tokyo Bay area hosts various buildings located on Odaiba, the famous man-made island. This is where the Ariake Gymnastics Center is located, the Tokyo Aquatic Center (swimming events), as well as the Tennis Park.
- To discover: Olympic Games 2020 - Aquatic events in Odaiba
Odaiba is by nature a shopping and leisure district, with no residential areas, you will mainly find restaurants in the many shopping centers located on the island. There's something for everyone: burgers, Italian, Mexican, Spanish, Chinese... and of course Japanese. Even if the district is not particularly known for its restaurants, you will find many places to eat on the go.
Kua `Aina Aqua City Odaiba
We will make an exception here by offering not a Japanese restaurant, but a Hawaiian restaurant serving burgers. Hawaiian restaurants are also surprisingly numerous throughout Japan.
This unmissable restaurant located in the Aqua City shopping center has two major arguments: firstly, excellent and very generous burgers, and secondly, a superb view of the famous Rainbow Bridge. This restaurant will be very practical during the Olympic Games because it is located right next to three competition venues, notably hosting the triathlon, beach volleyball, rock climbing, and basketball competitions.
- Address: 1-7-1 Daiba Aqua City Odaiba 4F, Daiba, Minato 135-0091 Tokyo
- Opening hours: Every day from 11 am to 11 pm.
Iso-sushi
For those who wish to eat lighter, this 15-seat restaurant offers all kinds of sushi, with extremely fresh fish: it is indeed part of the Toyosu Market, the replacement for the Tsukiji fish market. You will be able to eat there quickly at the counter (only at lunchtime), between two swimming, volleyball, tennis, or even gymnastics events.
Also in the fish market, we recommend the tonkatsu (breaded pork) restaurant "Odayasu".
- Address: 6 Chome−5, Toyosu3F Market, Koto, 135-0061 Tokyo
- Hours: Monday to Saturday, 4 am to 4 pm.
