Olympic Games 2020 - Boxing at the foot of the Tokyo SkyTree
Sweet Science
Boxing was a combat sport practiced in antiquity by the Greeks and the Romans, present at the Olympiads of 688. It was reintroduced into the modern Olympic Games during the third edition of Saint-Louis in 1904. In 2020, opponents will face off in central Tokyo, in the shadow of the SkyTree!

The ancestral fight
Boxing is a combat sport already present nearly 2000 years before our era among the Cretans and the Greeks.
At that time, the opponents faced each other with their hands bandaged with leather straps, and a match only ended when one of the two gave up or was knocked out.
It is entered in the events of the Olympic Games during the first American edition of 1904, to satisfy the American public extremely fond of this discipline, despite certain reservations due to its violence.
Except for the 1912 Stockholm Olympics, it has since been present at each Olympiad and has been the introduction to the world of some great champions, including Muhammad Ali during the Rome Olympics in 1960.

Lepugilat in Tokyo
In 2020, the boxing events will take place in Tokyo, in the mythical Ryôgoku Kokugikan where the New Year's desumo tournaments are organized each year, as well as those in spring and autumn.
This "Ryogoku National Sports Hall", with a capacity of 11,000 seats, is also the setting for many wrestling matches as well as boxing matches.
In 2020, the events will be divided into 5 weight categories for women (from flyweight to middleweight) and 8 categories for men.
The Ryogoku district
The Kokukigan is located on the banks of Tokyo's river, the Sumida, in the ward of the same name. This central district, neighboring the old quarter of Asakusa, is known for several of its iconic monuments.
The Tokyo Skytree first, located a few tens of minutes on foot, is the tallest tower in Japan and the second tallest tower in the world after the Burj Khalifa in Dubai.
This 634-meter eminence is a stone's throw from the Asahi headquarters, whose "Beer Hall", also nicknamed "the golden flame", was created by the French designer Philippe Starck.
Art lovers can take "Hokusai-dori" ("Hokusai Street") where reproductions of prints by Hokusai, born in the district, are exhibited.
