Olympic Games 2020 - Aquatic events in Odaiba
In the man-made islands of Tokyo Bay
The Tokyo Olympics will feature 33 different sports. Among these, some of the water sports competitions are organized in Tokyo Bay, in Odaiba: swimming, diving, water polo, artistic swimming, swimming marathon, canoeing (sprint and slalom), rowing, and triathlon events.
Odaiba is a collection of man-made islands in Tokyo Bay. Odaiba refers to the entire "Tokyo Waterfront Secondary City Center" ( Tokyo Rinkai Fukutoshin) which includes Daiba District, Ariake, and Aomi Districts of Koto Ward, and Higashi-Yashio District of Shinagawa Ward.
Construction in this area began in the 1850s for defensive purposes, but the area has since become an important industrial site in the capital to the east and a popular tourist area with a man-made beach to the west.
The Odaiba area is also being redeveloped in preparation for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Indeed, Tokyo Bay will host many events. Among these, are aquatic events.

What is there to do in Odaiba?
Odaiba has become a popular place with Tokyoites but also with tourists. You will find shopping malls, attractions, beaches, and even an onsen!
The Ôedo-Onsen Monogatari draws its waters from over 1,400 meters in the ground and has 13 types of baths, including natural springs. You can also find the largest Japanese garden in the entire Tokyo metropolitan area here, which is 50 meters long with around 2,300 square meters in total. You will also find restaurants and relaxation areas. There, you will travel back in time and feel like you are in the Edo period.
You can also admire from Odaiba a magnificent view, day and night, of the Rainbow Bridge and Tokyo Bay. To see a panoramic view of the port of Tokyo, we advise the most motivated to climb to the sphere of the observatory located at the top of the headquarters of Fuji Television, one of the most popular television stations in Japan.
There's also the Tokyo Joypolis indoor amusement park, with roller coasters, arcade games, and virtual reality experiences, located within the Aqua City shopping mall. A little further on is the atypical Venus Fort with, right next to it, a 115-meter-high Ferris wheel, called Daikanransha, which lights up in the colors of the rainbow.
For some years now, a giant Gundam statue has been installed in Odaiba. Of "real size", this 18-meter-high statue seems straight out of the manga.
