Ueno Cherry Blossom Festival うえの桜まつり
Tokyo celebrates spring
A hanami mecca for nearly 400 years, Ueno Park has been synonymous with " hanami in Tokyo".
Ueno Park is along with Yoyogi Park, one of the busiest places in the city during cherry blossom season, hanami . From March 18 to April 9, 2017, come and enjoy the Ueno Sakura Festival!
Historical park
It is not always known, but Ueno Park belongs to the Kan'ei-ji temple and was founded by the Buddhist monk Tenkai (1536-1643). The latter ordered the transplantation from Yoshinoyama mountain, in Nara prefecture, of the 1,200 cherry trees that now adorn the site during the Edo period (1603-1868).
Festivities
Sit back and have a picnic surrounded by someiyoshino cherry trees, or wander the park's alleys to admire the fleeting beauty of the landscape. Let yourself be entertained by the dance shows that take place all over the park and stroll through the flea market at the end of the day (5 pm-8pm). At nightfall, the 1,000 lanterns, traditionally made of paper, bonbori, illuminate the park and invite you to celebrate the arrival of spring by admiring the yozakura , the nocturnal cherry blossoms.
