Olympic Games 2020 - Cycling in the Izu Peninsula and at the foot of Mount Fuji

Cycling before Mount Fuji

Cycling is one of the original sports of the Olympic Games, already present during the first edition of 1896 in Athens. The 2020 Olympic Games Cycling will have a special character, with the events organized in the middle of some of the most picturesque and legendary places in Japan!

The eternal test

Cycling is one of those events that has always been present during the Olympic Games. Athletes are judged in races on their speed or riding technique. The number and type of events have undergone several changes over time.

The Munich edition in 1936 allowed the first codification with speed, kilometer, team pursuit, or time trial events. From 1986, women's road events were added, while BMX made its appearance at the Beijing Olympics in 2008.

For its part, the Izu peninsula (Shizuoka prefecture) will host the mountain bike events on July 27 and 28, within the "Izu Mountain Bike Course".

These cross-country events will not be the only ones to be held in this ancestral and mythical place of ancient Japan.

The Izu velodrome, located 120 kilometers from the capital, will be the scene of the track cycling events between August 3 and 9.
