The holy sanctuary
There is also a very special sanctuary in Fujinomiya, through which you absolutely have to go to capture all the magic of the place. The Fujisan Hongû Sengen-taisha is the great Shinto shrine at the head of the other 1,300 Sengen-jinja scattered across Japan. This first shrine, where Mount Fuji is worshipped, was founded in Fujinomiya in 806 , although the building we see today dates from 1604 when Tokugawa Ieyasu had decided to build it.
The two-storey building, of a very particular style, faces Mount Fuji as Shogun Ieyasu had wanted . From here springs Wakutama-ike, one of the very pure springs of the sacred mountain. And the 500 cherry trees that surround the sanctuary in the large park are a delight every spring.
natural wonders
Much of Fujinomiya City is included in Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park .
On the Asagiri plateau, the climate is pleasant, it is very green, there are pastures and you can even fly there by paraglider with the most beautiful view of nearby Mount Fuji .
Natural marvel, the waterfall of Shiraito , coming from a source of Mount Fuji, will amaze you as much as it will refresh you with its vivacity on its 150 meters in width .
Lake Tanuki has a funny history because at the beginning it was only a peaceful swamp until the Kanto earthquake in 1923 changed the appearance of the place. The water needs for local agriculture then saw the creation of this lake. It has become an attractive place, a popular destination for sports enthusiasts, with a cycle path all around, a campsite and a very good fishing spot.
From April to August, it is especially possible to contemplate the " diamond Fuji ", when the sun rises directly above Mount Fuji . Photography enthusiasts do not fail to immortalize the first rays of the sun as they emerge from the crater.
At table !
To finish this beautiful painting, you'll take a little something to eat, won't you? The specialty is yakisoba, ie fried noodles . It must be said that there are 4 large noodle factories here thanks to the exceptional water of Mount Fuji. There is also the largest breeding of rainbow trout , the most famous because of the flesh so fine and tasty.
