Museum of Oriental Ceramics 大阪市立東洋陶磁美術館
Turn around pots!
"Art provides an aesthetic sensibility essential to the enrichment of human nature." Thus the Museum of Oriental Ceramics in Osaka presents the visitor. What better justification than the purpose of heritage?
In the island Nakanoshima Park in the heart of the city sits this institution, created thirty years ago. Behind beige brick hidden by thick foliage, this shy museum is not very obvious to passersby.
It nevertheless contains collections of ceramics with a wealth of modern and antique pieces from all over Asia. The place is not trivial: the central island overlooking the river was once a place of passage for boats that came to deposit various goods from other lands. Thus, when the conglomerate Sumitomo decided to bequeath its important pieces in their collection to the city of Osaka, the decision was made to build a dedicated home: the ceramics museum.
Since 1982, it is possible to see these precious objects in a large space with simple lines and soft lighting that puts them in the spotlight. The rooms present traditions linked to ceramics in different Asian countries throughout history, such as Vietnam, Korea, China and Japan. After this trip, you can enjoy the tea room in the establishment to remind you these beautiful Oriental representations.
