Keibunsha 恵文社
Relearn to read
In Kei Bunsha, books invite us to rethink the practice of reading; in the face of silent texts, only images bring meaning...
Keibunsha surprises. A bookstore yet not quite a boutique, artsy in design while remaining inviting. Many customers lose themselves for hours on its shelves browsing the many shelves of contemporary Japanese magazines. The collection of art books will impress any connoisseur. Fans of Japanese photography, architecture, and pop culture are simply amazed.
A few rare books in English dot the shelves, but that is not Keibunsha's interest. The images speak for themselves. There are as many aesthetic wonders as fantasies, such as “the guide to living in self-sufficiency” whose teachings (how to kill a pig and make its clothes for the winter) are edifying. At the back of the bookstore, a gallery, stationery and a whole nice bazaar of small objects (the stamps are very cute) complete the charm of the place.
Young artists exhibit their works there regularly, attracting seekers and students alike keen on new things.
