Shoseien 渉成園
The bridge and the heron
Host of the Higashi Honganji temple, Shoseien offers its visitors a certain tranquility ...
A few birds fly over the garden , designed in 1643 by ISHIKAWA Jôzan. Visitors appreciate the calm. In Shoseien, the bridges, delimiting the sacred from the profane, govern the place.
Thus the Kaito-ro, a covered bridge in a sinister style, and the Shinsetsu-kyo, an arched bridge, constitute the two most beautiful rooms in the garden. Further on on the pond, artificial islets , landmarks for herons, interact with the adjoining pavilions of the abbots' residence of the neighboring temple.
The opportunity for a break, in the heart of Kyoto , away from the noise of the city. And to extend the walk, go to the Higashi Honganji temple, to which the Shoseien was attached in the middle of the 17th century.
