Seiryuue 青龍会
Dragon party!
The impressive Kiyomizu-dera, a temple on magnificent stilts, offers a spectacle three times a year worthy of a visit to celebrate the dragon god Seiryu.
Have you ever imagined encountering, if not defeating, a real dragon? The Seiryuue festival gives you the opportunity... Featuring the avatar of the Chinese green dragon Seiryu, an eastern and spring deity introduced to Japan, the festivities consist of incantations to attract peace and serenity.
In March, April, and September, the animated mythical lizard descends the steps of the temple of which it is the symbol to grant its favors to the faithful. Take a seat in the crowd and hope to receive your share of good fortune. To the sound of a horn, cymbals, and tambourines, the parade of the heavenly serpent bewitches all who follow it.
