Kagoshima has a special bus service offering cheap access to many of the tourist sites in the city.
Called "City View", there are two routes to choose from. The Shiroyama-Iso Course starts from the Kagoshima Chuo railway station and heads up to the Shiroyama Observatory stopping at the Museum of the Meiji Restoration, St Francis Xavier Park, the Saigo Takamori Statue, Satsuma Retainers Memorial, and Saigo's Cave.
On the way back down it stops again at Saigo's Cave and the Satsuma Retainers Memorial before arriving at Nanshu Park then Sengan-en. On the way back into town it stops at Ishibashi Park, the Kagoshima City Aquarium and Sakurajima Ferry Terminal, Dolphin Port, and finally Tenmonkan before returning to Kagoshima Chuo Station.
The first bus leaves Kagoshima Chuo Station at 9 am and the last bus leaves Sengan-en at 5:52 pm. There are buses approximately every half hour.

The second route is the Waterfront Course which also starts from Kagoshima Chuo Station before heading to Sengan-en stopping at the Museum of the Meiji Restoration, Dolphin Port, Aquarium & Ferry Terminal, as well as Ishibashi Park. On the return leg it stops at Gionnosu Park, the Saigo Nanshu Exhibit Center, Satsuma Retainers Memorial, Saigo Takamori Statue, Tenmonkan and then back to Kagoshima Chuo Station.
The first bus leaves Kagoshima Chuo Station at 8.40 am. And the last bus leaves Sengan-en at 5:25 pm. This route is less frequent, with approximately 95 minutes between buses.
In the evening there are two Night View buses which run from Kagoshima Chuo Station up to the viewpoint on top of Shiroyama with a break of 15 minutes at the top.
A single ride on any City View bus is 180 yen for adults, or 90 yen for kids. A one day pass which is also good for travel on Kagoshima city buses and trams is only 600 yen for adults, 300 yen for kids.
