Kyoto Museum for World Peace 立命館大学国際平和ミュージアム
Located just outside of the Kinugasa campus of Kyoto's Ritsumeikan University, the Kyoto Museum for World Peace is in part the school's attempt at atoning for its war-time misdeeds.
Like nearly all Japanese institutions, Ritsumeikan actively cooperated with the government and military in the pre-War build-up in the early Showa era.
The Kyoto Museum for World Peace is close to the Insho Domoto Museum of Fine Art.
The main exhibits deal with the 15-year-war (World War II), which Japan initiated in 1931 by attacking China.
There are exhibits and maps on the War, its impact on Kyoto, and the effects on Asia. Exhibits on display include weapons, flags, documents, and military uniforms.
There is a also a section of the museum dedicated to nuclear warfare detailing the attacks on Hiroshima and Nagasaki as well as the subsequent nuclear arms race between the USA and the old USSR.
In addition, on the first floor, there are rotating exhibits.
