Yagi fireworks 南丹市やぎの花火大会
August 14th
Colorful and luminous water lanterns, followed by fireworks: in Yagi, mid-August is marked by superb ceremonies.
Since 1947, the Oi river (city of Nantan, Yagi district) has hosted two celebrations on the eve of the Day of the Dead ( Obon ).
The festivities begin at 6 pm with the Buddhist ceremony of Toro Nagashi (灯籠 流 し), during which hundreds of paper lanterns are launched. Two hours later, it was the turn of the Nantan-shi Yagi Hanabi (Nantan-Yagi fireworks) to be fired. It commemorates the memory of the victims of the great Pacific typhoon of 1960.
