To the west of the bay, more precisely in Mihama-cho, a beach named Suisho-hama is particularly famous. Its sand, "Nakisuna ", literally" singing sand "is astonishing. Indeed, pay attention to the sound of your footsteps on the sand grains and let yourself be carried away by their melody. Not far away is Obama Bay, formerly a strategic location for trade with Asia. The lakes Mikata Goko
On the east side of the Wakasa Bay, you will discover the five lakes of Mikata " Mikata Goko ". Their biodiversity is such that they are now under the protection of the Ramsar Convention. Be surprised by their differences, whether water or the colors of the landscape. Nicknamed "five-colored lakes," their color changes with the seasons. Pine Trees By The Thousands
Forest Kehi-no-Matsubara is considered one of Japan's three great pine forests with Miho-no-Matsubara and Niji-no-Matsubara. Enjoy a hike in the middle of its 17 000 conifer species, some of which are over 200 years. Be surprised by their colors as you stroll the 1.5 km walk along a path specially fitted.
Amanohashidate
The "Bridge of Heaven" or Amanohashidate, is a long earthen platform 3.6 km across the sea. Covered with pine and white sand, it is one of the most beautiful views of Japan. It can be admired from the mountains for a more dramatic impression. And for the effect of the "Bridge of Heaven" is total, you will need to turn your back and bend over to look between your legs. The magnificent view is completely worth it! After Amanohashidate, you can visit the beautiful Buddhist temple Shionji.
A Gastronomic Tour
Wakasa Bay offers clear blue water and quality, surrounded by small fishing villages, and the fish here is absolutely delicious. In winter, the area is famous for crab. The surrounding landscape and rice fields changes color depending on the season, from green to a golden yellow. And who says local rice, also says sake!
