Okayama Station is an important railway hub on the Sanyo Shinkansen from Osaka to Fukuoka and also has trains running south to Shikoku and north to Matsue.

Okayama Station is located in Okayama, and is an important station forming a crossroads with shinkansen trains coming from Tokyo, Yokohama, Nagoya, Kyoto and Osaka to the east and Fukuoka, Yamaguchi and Hiroshima to the west.
In addition trains depart Okayama south to Shikoku across the Seto Ohashi and north to Matsue and Tottori on the Sea of Japan coast
Okayama Station Connections
Okayama Station is a busy, major rail intersection. Okayama Station is on the Sanyo Shinkansen from Shin-Osaka Station to Hakata Station, the Sanyo Main Line connecting Kobe Station and Moji Station in Fukuoka Prefecture, the Uno Line (Seto-Ohashi Line) to Uno in Okayama, the Kibi Line to Soja and the Tsuyama Line to Tsuyama.
Journey time from Tokyo Station to Okayama is 3 hours, 18 minutes by Nozomi shinkansen, from Shin-Osaka Station it is 45 minutes. From Hiroshima Station, Okayama is 35 minutes by the fastest train. From Kyoto Station it takes an hour to Okayama.
Yakumo Limited Express trains from Okayama also run to Matsue in Shimane Prefecture in 2 hours and 35 minutes. Super Inaba Limited Express trains from Okayama connect to Tottori in 1 hour and 50 minutes via Kamigori.
JR Marine Liner trains from Okayama Station also connect south to Takamatsu in 55 minutes, Tokushima (with a change in Takamatsu to the Uzushio Express) in around 2 hours, Matsuyama in Ehime Prefecture on the Shiokaze Limited Express in 2 hours, 40 minutes and Kochi on the Nanpu Limited Express in 2 hours, 40 minutes.
Okayama Station Shopping
The area in and around Okayama Station is a major shopping and entertainment district. The station building itself has the Sun Station Terrace shopping center on the first to fifth floors with a number of restaurants, cafes, souvenir shops, clothing stores and coin lockers. Okayama IchiBanGai is an underground shopping center on the first basement floor under the station.
The West Exit of Okayama Station is quieter with more office space, the Okayama Convention Center and the Okayama City Museum, whereas the East Exit has more shops and restaurants and is the livelier with many of Okayama's major hotels and stores grouped here, including a branch of Bic Camera.
At the East Exit of Okayama Station is a statue of Momotaro, which is a popular meeting place and a fountain. The Tourist Information Center is also at the East Exit and close by is the Momochari (ももちゃり) cycle rental center.
